Pirleyhill Pods – South Ayrshire

Owned & run by Stuart Andrew and his two sons. Pirleyhill pods is situated in the idyllic location Girvan, South Ayrshire, Scotland surrounded by the most spectacular panoramic views right across to the Irish Sea, towards Arran and Mull of Kintyre. It is most definitely a sight to behold.

Following University and a successful career in I.T., Stuart was given the opportunity to return to his roots and acquired a thriving cattle farm back in 2017.With the uncertainty and market fluctuations surrounding the agricultural industry Stuart set about diversifying the farm, incorporating several holiday pods within farmland. The addition of holidays pods helped increase revenue whilst allowing the farm to operate and run as normal.

Pirleyhill is now home to three Modular buildings 1 x Moddpod and 2 x Bothy’s with plans for a further three buildings in the future. Each pod offers guests a luxurious glamping experience superbly designed building complete with modern fittings and a high-end finish. All pods feature contemporary en-suite bathrooms and fully fitted kitchen facilities. For the full outdoor glamping experience guests are treated to their own private hot tub.

Imagine soaking up those views whilst relaxing in a warm hot tub with your favourite tipple in hand!

Ian Alderson started his long career at the age of 16 in landscaping and groundworks, working on contracts big and small he then built a garden supplies business from scratch with his father. Not content with just selling, Ian developed garden storage products using trial, error and many prototypes. Ian then turned his attention to producing outdoor buildings, constructed primarily using timber frames.

By 2014, Ian had developed a successful garden storage manufacturing business, sited on land which was fields prior to 2005.

Offices also built on the site by Ian and his father were rented out and Ian started looking to develop small buildings using new innovative techniques. Structurally Insulated Panels were a new product for the UK at that time however used elsewhere and were identified as a technology that could revolutionise the UK leisure building industry. Rather than buying pre-made panels Ian took the opportunity to research, develop and ultimately manufacture and was one of the first UK based companies to embrace this new technology. The outcome of this dedication was the ability to produce high quality buildings for use all year round and thus The Modular Group was founded.

Moving to larger premises in 2017 to meet the rising volume of orders and produce larger buildings the company has continued to go from strength to strength with high volume production, cutting edge design and fabrication processes and numerous clients throughout the UK and abroad.

Worried about the cold?

Panic not! Each pod has been built using Structural Insulated panels (SIPS) technology providing guests with premium insulation, allowing the pod to have all year round use and keeping guests toastie throughout the bitterly cold months in Scotland.

In Stuarts words….

What made you diversify into glamping pods?

In 2016 we decided it was the right time to diversify, and after months of research we opted for glamping pods due to it being a reasonably new exciting concept.

We visited many other glamping sites across Scotland and also visited the camping exhibition at the Exhibition Centre in Birmingham. It was at the Exhibition Centre that I came across Modular buildings, as soon as I saw their buildings, I knew they were the ones for me. They were different, modern, and stylish, compared to others I had seen.

We managed to welcome our first guests on the 10th July 2020 and went on to be fully booked until lockdown struck again in November. When we were open and welcoming lots of lovely, friendly guests who were giving us lots of amazing positive feedback regarding the pods and our location it was great. We loved every minute of it.

How do you market Pirleyhill pods?

We promote Pirleyhill Pods with our own company website and by various social media channels. We also use a booking agent called Travel Chapter to deal with all the bookings for the pods, they are responsible for promoting and marketing Pirleyhill Pods, generating the bookings and dealing with all financial transactions, as well as dealing with all customer queries and requests. With this being a totally new venture for us and hospitality being a different marketplace, we have found Travel Chapter to be a invaluable addition to our business, especially during the Covid pandemic and the uncertain times ahead.
